Dr. Raihan Kadri Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2015-16 to honor the passing of Philosophy alumnus Dr. A. Raihan Kadri, an award of $1500 will be granted to a Philosophy major who demonstrates a commitment to the field of Philosophical studies and has financial need.

The recipient of this scholarship will also receive a copy of Dr. Kadri’s book “Reimagining Life: Philosophical Pessimism and the Revolution of Surrealism”.

As a student, Raihan Kadri received the HUGRA award in 1997 with David Hoy as his mentor and graduated with highest honors in 1998. He continued his education at the University of Essex in England, receiving his MA in Continental Philosophy (2001) and his PhD in Art History and Theory (2007). Some of his areas of specialization included Surrealism and Modern Intellectual History. Raihan died tragically at the age of 36 from a ruptured aneurysm in August 2014.
