December 2007

Important Campus Deadlines

Deadline to remove an incomplete from spring 2007: Thursday, December 13
If you received a grade of "I" (Incomplete) in a spring 2007 course, it's time to start thinking about finishing up. You will need to complete the work for the course and file the "Petition for Removal of an Incomplete" (available at the Registar's office) before the last day of the quarter, December 13. Complete procedures can be found in the Chapter 4 of The Navigator. If you do not complete the work by the end of fall quarter, your Incomplete will lapse to a No Pass or an "F" depending on which letter-grade option you selected. If you will be graduating this year, it is especially important to make sure you don't end up with an "F" on your record--it could prevent you from graduating!

Deadline to request and incomplete grade for fall 2007: Thursday, December 13
At an instructors discretion, an Incomplete grade notation may be assigned for work which is of passing quality but incomplete. You must request an Incomplete grade notation before December 13. The deadline to complete the work must be negotiated with the instructor and can be no later than the final day of the winter 2008 quarter. Incomplete grade notations are typically given for emergency reasons or unforeseen circumstances. See "Incomplete Grade Notation" in Chapter 4 of The Navigator for more information (http://reg.ucsc.edu/navigator/chapter4.html#evaluating_ap). Because an I grade carries no credit, you should talk with a Stevenson adviser about the possible consequences on your academic standing.

How to Declare Your Major

  • Visit the online Undergraduate Advising Center at http://advising.ucsc.edu/student/declaration/index.html to download an enterable PDF of the Declaration of Major form (Step 1 of the "Steps to Declare").
  • Using your Degree Progress Report and Student Advising Summary on the Student Portal, you will enter your completed General Education requirements, University requirements, College requirements, completed credits, and expected graduating quarter.
  • Once completed, bring it to a college adviser to verify the information and sign your form.
  • Take the form to your major department. Be sure to visit your department's web site to check for specific declaration procedures and possible mandatory declaration sessions. The typical navigation on a department website is to first click on the links for "Undergraduate Program" then "Declaring the Major" or "Advising."
  • If you do not need to extend your enrollment, you will end the process with your department. Once approved by the department and entered into the system, your major will be officially declared!
