News
New Assistant Professor Joins Philosophy Faculty
The
UCSC Philosophy Department is pleased to announce our new faculty
member, Dr. Rasmus Winther. Rasmus received his PhD in philosophy from
Indiana University. His areas of interest are philosophy of science
and philosophy of biology, and he will be teaching courses in pragmatism,
Latin American philosophy, and philosophy of biology.
Two Philosophy Undergrads win HUGRA Awards
Humanities Undergraduate Research Awards (HUGRA) are offered each year to up to ten undergraduates conducting research in the Humanities. The Philosophy Department is proud to announce that two of the 2007-08 awards went to Philosophy majors. Brian Ballard received an award for his project, "Materialism and Epistemic Self-Defeat." Thomas Gadd received an award for his research on "Philosophy and the Empiricists' Stance." The faculty sponsor for both students is Ric Otte.
Students earning this distinction receive a $500 stipend. In addition, they hav the oppotunity to present their work during the spring Student Achievement Week.
